Bella Vista Decorative Artists is a chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters with the international headquarters located in Wichita, KS. Our local chapter has 50 members who attend monthly meetings learning new painting techniques. Each month we have a project taught by either an international teacher or one of our many talented members. These new techniques are used for our own personal goals and our many service projects.

We feel the need to serve others with our talents; our goal is to improve the living conditions or lives of those in need. Some of the projects we have been involved are listed below:

ϋ    Canvas tote bags painted with whimsical child themed pictures for the children who temporarily stay at the Children’s Home in Vaught, AR – at least 30 are needed monthly Usually these children arrive with nothing – they leave with new toothbrushes, other hygiene items and some new clothing.

ϋ    Pillow cases painted with child themed pictures for children leaving the hospital – unlimited number of pillow cases could be used to cheer a child

ϋ    Paper Mache boxes – painted tastefully, to be given to new parents whose baby was still born or died before leaving the hospital. This box would contain the tiny knitted cap, blanket, I.D. bracelet, picture, etc.

ϋ    Note books for single mothers to keep medical and legal document as they leave temporary housing or battered facilities; this helps them keep organized in an unorganized world.

ϋ    A whimsical painted wall in the children’s ward of a hospital

ϋ    Treasure boxes – these are usually decoratively painted shoe boxes for the less privileged child for school supplies.

ϋ    Chairs – each member is responsible for obtaining their chair for decorative painting to be given to LifeStyle for their annual fund raiser. LifeStyle is an organization supporting developmental challenged adults. Each year we encourage our members to participate and share chairs with each other.

ϋ    5X5 challenge – we support the ArtsCenter of the Ozarks by painting 5”x5” canvases for their fund raising auction.

ϋ    Quilt squares are painted in patriotic themes. These are quilted and send to wounded soldiers via the Quilts of Valour program.

We are always looking for ways to help others with our decorative art.
